Since I had my son, I have fallen in love with art made from his little handprints and footprints! I have always adored his ten little fingers and ten little toes. So nothing would be more appropriate than an Independence Day decoration made from his prints.
I made this adorable HANDPRINT AMERICAN FLAG.
It was something super simple that I can frame and have as a decoration for years to come! Here's how I made it:
WHAT YOU NEED:
*Cardstock or construction paper (I used acid-free cardstock so that it doesn't fade over time)
*Acrylic Paint (Red, White, and Blue)
*Paintbrush
WHAT YOU DO:
First, lay your cardstock out so it is within easy reach. Once I had all my supplies ready, I got my lil guy and ready with his paint shirt. I always recommend using a paint shirt, even if this is supposed to be a quick project and clean up. Next, I painted the palm of his hand with blue paint to represent the blue square on the flag. Then I painted each finger, alternating red and white. Make sure to apply a liberal coat of paint to their hand so that you get a good print! Center their hand onto your cardstock and press down. Have your little one count to five with you while you press their hand down. This makes it fun for them and less likely to think about yanking their hand off the paper and messing up the print. Once you get a good print, set aside to dry. Once the paint is completely dry, use the white paint and a small paintbrush to add a star to the blue palm print. Let dry. Mount on additional colors of cardstock if desired. I laminated mine afterward (not pictured) to ensure that the print lasts forever. :) Add a frame and you have a perfect Fourth of July decoration.
